3ds max Getting Started Choosing a workspace In which we kind of have a stripped down version of the main toolbar here. But in this course, I’m going to be using the default or classic workspace. So I’ll switch that back to default. 3DS Max makes it easy for you to change the workspace if you wish. For example we can click on any one of the textured bars on these interfaced elements and just drag and drop things around. I just moved the command panel out so that it’s floating.

Or I can drag it back and redock it to the interface. We’ll look at customization in the next movie. For now I just want to mention that if you wish to create your own workspace, you can save that explicitly, from the workspace’s pull-down we can go into a window labeled manage workspaces. And from within this window we can create our own workspaces and save them, and for example choose a new default state once we’ve customized our system. However, you don’t need to use this workspace’s dialog. If you make changes to the interface as long as you exit out of 3DS Max normally those changes will be stored in your user preferences. And that’s how to choose different workspaces.
