3ds max Polygon Modeling Using the caddy to set options for an inset polygon And I want this to be constructed more or less the way it would be in the real world, so I want to start by creating an inset polygon, and that will be found, once again, on the modeling ribbon if we’re in polygon sub object mode. And over here we have polygons inset. Now, if we just click on the button, then we can click and drag in the viewport to set the inset amount. I’ll show you. You just click on inset and then click and drag. But this is not very precise, and you can see I’m having a lot of problem with this.

So I’m going to undo that with Control+Z and go into the inset options, and that will load up something called the caddy, C-A-D-D-Y, which is an onscreen manipulator for parameters, and we can get at that by either clicking on the arrow next to a button, or on the modify panel, there’s an options box that’ll do the same thing, or we can Shift+click on the button on the ribbon here. So Shift+click on that is the same as choosing inset settings.
